Noun [Central Franconian]

IPA: /hɔːx/ Forms: Hööch [plural], Hääch [plural]
Etymology: From an Old High German *hāhho (perhaps attested as hācho, but ch is here more probably a spelling for k), from Proto-Germanic *hēkô, which also underlies in Limburgish haok. The Germanic word, which is possibly of substrate origin, has at least three stem variants: *hak-, *hēk-, *hēgg-. From the last is German Haken and the forms with k above.
